My Girl (2005)

It took me 5 days to watch the entire My Girl series, I know its pretty long to drama crazy fans, but considering my packed schedule, its considered really fast.

So all in all, one word to summarise the show: AWESOMENESS !

I've never really been a hardcore fan of Korean dramas, but because of the song Never Say Goodbye by Mario and Nesty, I started watching My Girl one fine wednesday night, and I was hooked on it.

The roles were well played by the actors. Awesome plotline which made me feel like a secondary school kid again. And the funny thing was, I was a little sad when the show ended at 16 episodes.

Again, I know I'm 4 years backdated but still, My Girl is an AWESOME show. For laggards like me who haven't watched it yet. What are you waiting for ?

Thank you

I remember being 13 years old, seated in my room all night, listening to the same song over and over. I felt that if I could write something beautiful, something honest, maybe I can make someone love me.

I’ve taken a lot for granted, I’ve never tried too hard, and I’ve always avoided responsibility. I came here because I was running away, I wanted to be alone, and instead I met you. I met you and you weren’t taken anything for granted.

I hope you get all the moments you deserve. I’m sorry if I’ve made your life more complicated, I’m sorry for a lot of things but most of all, sorry I never got the chance to tell you, no matter what happens next, I’ll never be anything but grateful for every moment I spent with you. And even though I keep fumbling for the right words, all I really wanted to say, was thank you.

Rainy days

Monsoon season. You spend an entire day in school. Finally it hits 5pm. Time to go home ! But no, wait. Heavy rain beating hard on the walkways. Dejectedly, you walk back up to the classroom, hoping the rain will stop soon.

When you have a camera around, your cure boredom by taking photos. And this is what you get, when you have nothing better to do.

Boring Sunday

Its a gloomy sunday and I'm stuck at home. Pork is totally missing in action. Jason is throwing tantrums. I guess it'll be a budget Sunday at home.

2012

Don't know why, I suddenly have this urge to move to Australia, Perth.

Anywho, just watched 2012 with Jason and xiaowan. Pretty okay movie. I like the way the writers induce some humour into the script. Well, the tickets were sold out at most major cinema. So we ended up watching at Balestier. Parking was damn cheap too :)

Letting go

Being together for 3 years, I've learnt many things from our relationship. Everytime I'm out, i see little things that reminds me of her. I've changed my views on many things and learn to accept and embrace life as it is as well.

Somethings never change, but some habits do. Somethings reminds me of you, it brings both good and bad memories.

1) I never drink tea, not a sip, even at chinese restaurants, i only take cold water and nothing else. I hated the tea smell, the bland puke-inducing taste. At Prata shops, i only order iced milo. Then she showed me iced teh cino. Made me drink tea at restaurants and i grudually accpeted it and now i am a regular tea drinker.

2) Chicken wings from Ang Mo Kio Ave 4. Every time I eat this, I'll lick the crumbs and oil off my fingers kind of like the way you do, your trademark chicken wing eating style really gets me smiling. Everytime I go to that damn stall, I think of you and sadness overwhelms me.

3) I've learnt to appreciate designer goods. One word - Prada.

4) I could never eat Spicy food. Not at all, even till now, you merely increased my threashold.

5) Pool Junction at Middle Road. I've learnt to play pool at a classier place, not the old dingy AMK place.

6) I can live with simple hawker food and cheap stuff. I've learnt to appreciate the finer life, finer dining and finer food.

7) We explored many places for night supper together, grew fat together, and with this, i'll take the knowledge of the existance of these places with me. Xin Wang HK Cafe, Ice Cube at serangoon gardens.

8) I'm not exactly a pet guy but I've learnt to love a dog as much as I've loved you. When i fell in love with you, i fell in love with two. And i really do enjoy going to Pet Centre at Serangoon Gardens for Vodka's haircut and clothes shopping at Great World City.

9) I've learnt to control my temper, now i'm much milder and more in control of the way i present myself.

10) I've learnt to be patient, very very patient in a relationship.

11) I've learnt how to love someone wholeheartedly and really mean it.

12) I've learnt how to be at ease with your family.

13) I've learnt that people change because of ambition, it might turn out to be good, might turn out the other way, unfortunately it went wrong.

14) I've learnt that actually sleeping in with someone you love is the most wonderful thing on earth.

15) I've learnt routine can't get too settled in since we're not married, constant change and refreshing ideas are needed to make things work.

16) I've learnt loving someone isn't easy

17) I've learnt to view things from a more mature point of view.

18) I've learnt that i actually love to travel alot, much more than i thought, and all the more better if its with you.

19) I've learnt that there are 90% lies and 10% truth in a relationship, but regretfully didn't treasure the 10% truth and chose to bask in the lies.

20) I've learnt how much one person can affect another. The hard way.

I've learnt many things in this relationship. For that i'm thankful not only to her but to the people who helped and showed concern along the way. I've never regretted going into this relationship and if i could choose again, i'd go through it again but in a better way to sustain and make things better. But as for now, i'm learning one last thing - Letting go.

Bangkok 281009 - 011109

As detailed as I could remember, this is our journey to the land of smiles.

Day 1

Picked pork and Jason up at about 4pm on Wednesday 28th Oct 09. We reached the airport way too early. After we walked a couple of rounds in Terminal 3, we went back Terminal 1 to check in. A quick check in because of the biometric shite from our passport. Went straight to the duty free shop for some booze and cigarettes. We settled for Marlboros, Martel and a Chivas. Had a little incident with the Chivas promoter.

After which, we went up the food court, supposedly for dinner. Ended up not eating and went straight to the gate. Sat down and started cam whoring.

"3K513 to Bangkok"

The flight was 2 hours, but oddly I was pretty tired when we touched down in Bangkok. We hired a cab to take us to Sukhumvit area to find our hotel for the first night. We ended up in Nana City Inn. Directly below Ladyboys’ hunting ground. At 900 bht per night, the room was pretty all right. After putting down our stuff, we went out for a massage and subsequently got some street food before going back to the hotel for some shut eye.

Day 2

Jason and pork slept in late, while I was up early. Took a quick shower and went out on the streets myself to explore. Not many shops were open, so I stopped by 7-11 to get some toiletries. After that, I walked over to JW Marriott and grabbed some McDonalds breakfast for the guys.

Back in the hotel, I ate my breakfast and got some shut eye. The guys woke up at about 10am, ate their breakfast and we started to pack up to move to our main hotel; the Majestic Grande. We checked out and dragged our bags across the road straight to Majestic Grande. We were able to check in early, so we left our bags and went straight to the tailor as pork wanted to tailor make some shirts and pants.
On the way to the tailor, we smoked along the streets of Sukhumvit Soi 4. Naturally, we “dropped” the cigarette butt on the floor. In Singapore, it is an offence to “drop” your cigarette butt on the floor. But judging from the state that Sukhumvit Soi 4 is in, who’d have thought it was illegal there too. So 2 idiotic policemen brought us to their “shelter” thingee and flashed us a card. Apparently it shows legislation from the government stating that littering was an offence. We tried to talk our way out but in the end, we were fined each 1000bht. WTF. Our day was spoilt.

Nevertheless, we were still in Bangkok. After paying the fine and cursing their (the 2 policemen) previous and future generations, we carried on our way to the tailor. At this point, a way to cure the anger inside us was probably a good massage, and so we did. Walked into this alley, where this beefy farmer girl came up to ask saying “Massage? Massage ? Good good massage.” We went for it and the massage was pretty all right. 2 hours of stress relieving.

At about 4pm, we went back to the hotel. Oh, I forgot to mention, the hotel reeks awesomeness. The room was awesome and the facilities they offered were awesome as well. We went to the hotel’s pool for a swim. Kid mode got activated, we splashed around the pool, took loads of photos, some of which Michael Jackson inspired. Got a couple of awesome shots.

Pork and Jason went to the sauna after the swim, I went to the Jacuzzi. The warm water and the magnificent view were perfect. Couple it with some wine and snacks, we’ll be in heaven. Jason and Pork joined me in the Jacuzzi a short while later, and we started singing at the top of our lungs like nobody’s business. A little while later, 2 Iranian men join us in the tub and we made new friends with them. They were on a business trip, 1 day business, 3 days relax. Awesome philosophy.

After the swim and Jacuzzi, we went up for our Maggie “feast”. Bought loads of Maggie, instant soup and drinks from the convenience store near our hotel. Our dinner was settled in the hotel room. It was still early, I suggested going to Suan Lum night bazaar. Cab down and started walking the rows and rows of shops. 3 hours of shopping, we bought some stuff and got a rough idea on what exactly we’d buy the next day, after a round of cokes, we headed back to the hotel for some shut eye.

Day 3

Friday came, again we slept late again. It was our shopping day, so after 1 hour of preparing, we left the hotel room. On the way down to the hotel lobby, I saw this ad for lunch buffet at Dine @ 7 in the hotel for 300 bht. We stopped at the 7 floor and went straight for the buffet. International style with many choices. Little did I know, the buffet would last me the entire day without feeling much hunger.

After our filling lunch, we headed straight to Mahboonkrong (MBK Center) for shopping. The damn place is huge. Comparable to our Suntec City, only difference is that in Suntec city, you understand what the people are saying around you, in MBK, it’s just thai gibberish. Oh yes, they have air-conditioned smoking rooms connected to the mall.

Jason and pork bought belts, I bought some stuff for my friends, shirts for Roy and Brian as well. A funny thing happened though. We went to this shop, Jason and pork were looking through the clothes, Jason wanted to buy some so he tried on a few pieces, pork helped him choose some in the men’s section. We stayed in the small shop for quite a while, and pork’s hand started to get itchy, he went over to flip through the females shirt, the thai girl-owner told him

Thai girl-owner : That one for girl !

Pork : Ya la ! I’m a girl what.

Thai girl-owner : Oie ! you not buying don’t touch touch ah! You get out! Get out!

Haha! The thai girl-owner left pork speechless and he left the shop leaving me and Jason behind. I decided to scram before the Thai girl-owner becomes crazy again. I wanted to tell Jason to forget about the shirts but he seemed to have made his choice. Shopping resumed after.

We walked a while more and pork decided to get a haircut and some colour dye. We left MBK after pork was done and headed back to Sukhumvit for the tailor fitting. Got onto a tuk tuk but traffic was so bad that the tuk tuk driver stopped halfway and refused to continue on with the journey. We didn’t know where the shit we were so we crossed the road towards a BTS station. We decided to ask around. 2 Thai students walked in our direction. They were awesome girls, Pim and Nan. We walked with them all the freaking way back to MBK before splitting up at the BTS station as we were heading back to Nana station while the girls were going to shop for tomorrow’s Halloween. Of course, their numbers were safely tucked in pork’s mobile.

We went for tailor fitting at Nana, before heading back to our hotel for a quick shower, then to Suan Lum again. We bought most of the stuff we wanted and the day ended with supper back in our hotel room.

"Guess which one is for who"

"The Majestic Grande"

Day 4

Nothing new here, slept in late again, woke up around 11am. Called up Suchada to arrange a meet up. We took the BTS to Siam Paragon and walked across the road, to Siam Central, assuming that was the place we were suppose to meet her. So there we were waiting and waiting, and finally, Suchada called saying she was outside Levis at level 2 waiting for us. We looked up, we were at Levis level 2, but Suchada was nowhere to be seen. I checked the directory and realised we were at Siam Central mall, while Suchada was at Central World mall 3 blocks down. We walked over to Central World mall, and finally spotted her with her boyfriend sitting outside Levis.

Went to a cafe for some drinks and catching up. Had the most wonderful fruit blend but the cakes were mediocre. Suchada’s boy brought us to a sports shop to look at pool cues. Since they were off the rack, nothing interests me and perhaps the next time I shall have to custom make the cue earlier. We left Suchada and her boyfriend at about 5pm and we headed back to our hotel to prepare for our Halloween night.

"Suchada and pork"

"Suchada and Jason"

"Suchada and me"

"Suchada's boy"

Dressed to kill (as claimed by Jason), we took a cab down to Khao San, apparently to meet up with Pim and Nan from yesterday. We sat down at this place called Brick Bar and had some finger food and beer. Throngs of people squeezed through the tiny street with quite a number of people dressed up for the occasion.

"Khao San in its full glory"

"People dressed up for Halloween"

The girls called and said they were heading to RCA, club Slim. Almost immediately, we footed the bill and off we were to RCA. Club Slim looked interesting from the outside. We went in, it was like walking squeezing through hell. Jason chatted up some girls and we joined their table shortly after. Being a non-clubber, this experience made me more repulsive to the idea of clubbing. Granted the girls there were hot and stuff but still. Pork made his point that we should have been there earlier, get a table and ask people to join our table instead. The music was standard, sweaty bodies rubbed unwilling against each other, gibberish of Thai spewing through the dance floor. Jason danced and drunk the night away. Nothing much to shout about, perhaps Jason could give a more detailed report on what happened that night. We didn’t get to meet Pim and Nan :( Back to the hotel soon after.

Day 5

Woke up super late at 11am, flight was at 145pm. Started packing up and left the hotel at about 12 noon exactly. Got a taxi to the airport, grabbed a quick bite in the airport and boarded the plane heading back to reality.
Touched down Singapore at 5pm. Reached home at 630pm, changed and off we were to basketball. After which, a movie, supper then home.

What a bloody good vacation it was. I’d like to go back to Bangkok again soon. Very soon.

Random musings

- I drank so much coke this trip, more that what I’d drink in months
- Levis is at level 2 at both Siam Central mall and Central World mall
- Jason could not finish his KFC lunch on Day 4 at Siam Paragon.
- Poy-Sian became my newest addiction
- Majestic Grande is surprisingly an Awesome hotel
