Side track a little: Coming from an all boys primary school, female friends were hard to come by considering I was that scrawny and shy kid whom like all boys think girls were weird creatures that weren't friendly people. Growing up, there was this girl in my neighbourhood, who was god damn pretty. I used to convince myself that she was a girl and boys shouldn't play with girls as we were too cool for them. Acting all indifferent and cool but secretly trying to impress her with my non-existent manliness. It was only later I realised that it was my first crush ! Pretty awesome stuff. Well, I got to know her name, and her sister's name too. And everyday after school, my neighbourhood friend and I would keep checking out the playground at 5pm to see if she was there playing. I remember once my friend rode his bicycle and saw her and her sister at the playground. He called me and I immediately rushed down just to see her (again with my acting cool persona). There was also a time where we approached them to see if they would like to play catching. We did, never realising that it was so much fun playing together.
Well, there were rules from my upbringing that a boy shouldn't touch a girl without permission and sadly the rules of catching states that touching one another's back is permitted. Being the shy and meek kid I was, I followed the rules and I was always the catcher, chasing the girls but never really "catching" them :D (hey ! i was a long distant runner, so catching was like my forte)
Anyway, news came they she and her family will be relocating, away from the neighbourhood but just up a street to a private housing nestled amongst HDB blocks. It was a dark news then. The neighbourhood belle was moving, skies became overcast, situation looked bleak. The reason I had to go play in the playgound was leaving...
Years passed, the memory of her had a special place in my heart. Bittersweet but forever my childhood crush.
Back to present time, pork told me about this his couple friend and this girl whom he went to Phuket with. When he mentioned the girl's name, and that she stays nearby the area, immediately memories gushed my head, it put a smile on my face and it true and I've confirmed, it was her, the childhood crush girl. The girl who was once every kid in Fulton Road's dream. Thats pretty awesome !
6 degrees of seperation ? Better believe it !
