Last day of 2009

As 2009 comes to an end, we all look forward to 2010 and at the same time, we also look back on what we've done for 2009 and our achievements. As we usher in the new year in a couple of hours time, take some time to search deep in your heart for the "moment" of 2009. I guess for me, that "moment" is my family being healthy and safe.

Happy new year to my glob readers. Although the amount is miserable, you know who you guys/girls are and you know that I'll always love you all (:

2010, here I come !

Brian's big day

Brian's big day was on the 13th December 2009. The day he held his wedding dinner, the day he brought his bride over to his home.

We met up early at about 5+am at the temporary market near his place for breakfast, before going back to his place for him to change. We embarked on our journey to west coast where Christine lived. The convoy of 2 consisted of Brian's bridal car and the brother's car driven by Jing de.

I was filming the entire process for the morning, so when we reached the bride's place, we were pretty early, the bridesmaid wern't exactly ready. After a series of "test" which wasn't very "taxing" on the brothers, we managed to get in the house. Damage I received was a huge sip of pure lime juice and a piece of bittergourd (something which I NEVER eat). And whos to forget the humiliating disposable panties we have to wear.

As Brian entered the room, there she was, all gorgeous and excited, and after unveiling the bride, Brian planted a well deserved kiss on her lips. After a round of photos, we left the house and headed back to Brian's place for the tea ceremony.

The tea ceremony went on, and it was back to Christine's place for the bridal's side tea ceremony. Buffet lunch followed shortly after, and together with the brothers, we polished off the entire tray of chocolate eclaires.

I left for home first and as it was a long drive, I nearly dozed off at lornie road towards home. My mum bought lunch as well, so I stuffed myself with whatever my stomach could take. By then, I was so damn tired coz I only slept 2 hours the night before, I just took off my shirt and lay on the floor with my bag as my pillow. After napping for half an hour, my sister woke me up and it was then I realised it was 230pm. I jumped into the shower to refresh myself before driving to the hotel - Lion City Hotel.

When I reached, we met up with the emcees and went straight to the ballroom. I hooked up my laptop to the restaurant's system and tested the videos from the morning. We were there early and the video editing could not be done, so the emcees went for coffee while I waited in the heat (airconditioning wasn't on) for the brothers to come.

The brothers finally arrived at 530pm, by then the emcees came back and we were ready for the rehersal. While waiting for Brian to come down for the rehersal, I taught Eugene Fu how to use the video camera, he took over as the video guy and did a fantastic job I would say. Sadly I can't upload the videos due to its size.

I did a final brief to the emcees, the brothers and the groom and finally we kicked off the first rehersal. Eugene Fu as the "bride" was classic ! After sorting out the first rehersal, we went for the second and final rehersal before the guests started to arrive.

This was it, i cued the music for his slideshow presentation of his wedding photos and the night begun.

The ballroom slowly filled and surprisingly most of the guests were on time ! Eugene Fu, armed with the camera went around filming and I told him to go film pretty girls, which he did, more on that later.

Brian mingled about with the guests and I was running up and down trying to get everything ready.

815pm, it was time, I got Brian to standby, with the help of 2 brothers, Eugene Koh and Eugene Lim. Gave the thumbs up to the emcees, and they announced the first march in. As i cued the music, I was glad all the guests were focusing on the doors where the couple would come in by. I gave the signal to Brian, and there it was, perfect ! The march was beautiful. After the cake "cutting" and the on stage kiss, it was time for the restaurant to present their first dish. It was classic, to the song of "Victory" made popular by bond, rows of aunties walked into the Ballroom delivering the first cold dish. I joined the swensen's table shortly after.

It was the second march in, I went up stage with the emcees, and then again, called Brian on his mobile to get him to stand by. With the help of the brothers, I gave the thumbs up to the emcees and off we go ! The second march in was all right, a little sped up but everything was good. After the champaign pouring, the parents of both families were asked on stage for the traditional yum seng toast. It was finally done, my job.

I just let the music run and back to join my table. Brian and Christine went to all tables for photo taking and stuff. The night rolled on and I was glad my first time as "half" a "wedding planner" was pretty much successful. It was tiring, but I was glad when I saw smiles on Brian and Christine's face throughout the night.

Nothing beats that.

Regarding the part whereby I mentioned Eugene Fu taking pretty girls, what happened was I was looking through the videos on tuesday night, and realised someone familiar. She looked like someone I knew, I'm pretty sure its her though, just have to confirm with Brian. She was there with her boyfriend and she's probably the prettiest after the bride of course.

I'd like to give a shout out to the all the brothers - Eugene Fu, the second camera man and one of the brothers who belonged to the alcohol defence group. Eugene Lim, the front desk IC and third cameraman as Fu's backup and designated driver. Eugene Koh, front desk IC and Brian's alcohol defence group and Jing de, designated driver who drove the family the entire day from east to west (I know how tiring it can get, driving). Without you guys, nothing would go smoothly.

Finally, to Brian, the man of the hour, I hope you enjoy every moment of your big day, with a combined effort of all your friends and family, we made it happen and with that, kicking start your married life. Have a blissful marriage !

Company Wars

The stage was set; it was an all out war between the companies. The strategic alliance between L co., K co., and S co. as well as the other alliance between G co and J co. The mission - to earn as much revenue by the end of 10 weeks.

Lead by the market leader J co., and with G co. commanding the second largest market share, the might of this alliance between these two companies seemed unparallel. The other alliance between K co., S co. and L co. looked as if they were venturing into a very saturated market, never able to make an impact.

Week 1 – 4. As predicted, the might of J co. and G co. was too much for K co., S co. and L co. to bear. By week 5, the former had a lead of 60 million dollars. K co. called on an urgent board meeting between its partners. K co. wanted to pull out. S co. was still lost in the fray, trying its best to hang on with its meagre sales. L co. had its stand – never to give up until the 10 weeks are up.

As the weeks went by, it seemed to take a toll on G co. And L co. strategically used this opportunity to distract G co. spreading market rumours, making G co.’s shareholders uneasy. This plan was backed up by S co. and K co. The plan worked. Market leader J co. had to pick up the slack, putting unnecessary pressure on itself.

Capitalising on this window of opportunity, L co. seized the chance to close in on J co. and G co. By closing two 30 million dollar deals, L co. brought his alliance within striking distance while motivating K co. along the way. This spurred on S co. to perform at a constant pace.

By the 9th week, it was pretty obvious the tables have turned. Hot on J co. and G co.’s heels, the other team was about to close in to draw victory. J co. by now called in G co. for an emergency meeting, after analysing market trends and with much data analysis, the regained composure and finished off week 10 with an impressive sales figure.

Week 10 – K co. and S co. submitted their final revenue, with the 2 companies combined taking down G co.’s revenue with 4 million to spare. A commendable effort for 2 relatively small businesses to outshine the second largest market share holder.

J co. submitted its sales. Impressive sales figure at 127 million. It was L co.’s turn. L co. had a last shot at garnering more sales with a final client. G co. and J co. made a last ditch attempt to create a distraction to L co. This was when the smaller but feistier S co. and K co. stepped up and took control of the situation, dumping all resources to hold back their competitors. L co. took the last client in the meeting room. And after what seemed like eternity, he emerged out, with its head held high, the client accepted the proposal, 20 million. L co. managed to match J co.’s sales figure at 127 million.

The market witness the fall of the great company – J co. The mission ended, L co. wrote off J co.’s figures, but it was the combined effort of S co. and K co. making sure the 4 million separated them from G co.

It was over, victory was sweet, and a mere 4 million separated the two alliances. The losing alliance graciously accepted defeat. S co. was basking in its unexpected success and K co. learnt a valuable lesson on this very day – Never give up until it’s over.

My Girl (2005)

It took me 5 days to watch the entire My Girl series, I know its pretty long to drama crazy fans, but considering my packed schedule, its considered really fast.

So all in all, one word to summarise the show: AWESOMENESS !

I've never really been a hardcore fan of Korean dramas, but because of the song Never Say Goodbye by Mario and Nesty, I started watching My Girl one fine wednesday night, and I was hooked on it.

The roles were well played by the actors. Awesome plotline which made me feel like a secondary school kid again. And the funny thing was, I was a little sad when the show ended at 16 episodes.

Again, I know I'm 4 years backdated but still, My Girl is an AWESOME show. For laggards like me who haven't watched it yet. What are you waiting for ?

Thank you

I remember being 13 years old, seated in my room all night, listening to the same song over and over. I felt that if I could write something beautiful, something honest, maybe I can make someone love me.

I’ve taken a lot for granted, I’ve never tried too hard, and I’ve always avoided responsibility. I came here because I was running away, I wanted to be alone, and instead I met you. I met you and you weren’t taken anything for granted.

I hope you get all the moments you deserve. I’m sorry if I’ve made your life more complicated, I’m sorry for a lot of things but most of all, sorry I never got the chance to tell you, no matter what happens next, I’ll never be anything but grateful for every moment I spent with you. And even though I keep fumbling for the right words, all I really wanted to say, was thank you.

Rainy days

Monsoon season. You spend an entire day in school. Finally it hits 5pm. Time to go home ! But no, wait. Heavy rain beating hard on the walkways. Dejectedly, you walk back up to the classroom, hoping the rain will stop soon.

When you have a camera around, your cure boredom by taking photos. And this is what you get, when you have nothing better to do.

Don't know why, I suddenly have this urge to move to Australia, Perth.

Anywho, just watched 2012 with Jason and xiaowan. Pretty okay movie. I like the way the writers induce some humour into the script. Well, the tickets were sold out at most major cinema. So we ended up watching at Balestier. Parking was damn cheap too :)
