1 night holiday is too damn short

A 1 night holiday is too god damn short .. I need to go away to a place far far away from Singapore ..

Just need to tide through Christmas first. Used to be my favourite holiday season. Now, it has become one of the darkets periods of my life.

It blows ..

Changes

It was superbly fun during my stay at Causeway Point, the people there and the pace will be sorely missed. But good things don't last, you just can't get too comfortable at one place can you.

I've moved on to Vivocity, where a new challenge awaits. To revive a place like Vivocity would be harder than just equipting a defibrillator and pressing the "e" button. I'm both physically and mentally drained after a week there compared to a month at Causeway Point. In the short 1 week under my helm, a spate of incidents were reported and things seemed very very bleak.

Then again, thats life. I need to prove my worth and at the same time take good care of my subordinates, my team is my priority, without my team, I'm nothing. So the challenge, I see it clearly. I'm trying my best to steer this boat the right direction and its gonna take time. Question is, will I be able to hold the reins long enough to make a difference ? Or will I be just a passing breeze, nothing threatening, no impact at all ?

Everybody dread changes, proven fact. I'm one of those, but I've already accepted the change that I'm going through and trying to make the best out of it. Like I said, its tiring and challenging, and at the end of the day, I'm always faced with one question asked by my very own self. Is the juice worth the squeeze ?

Changes to come

3 Months have passed by so fast .. an update of feelings, thoughts and prospect will be up soon .. in the meanwhile, immerse yourself in what every precious time you have left at your comfort zone..

Can't get you off my mind

You know what ? Ever since the first time I saw you, I just can't seem to get you out of my mind. Seeing you smile while participating in the activities, watching your undaunted spirit and the fun that you were having. Made me smile as well and gave me that warm fuzzy feeling.

The anticipation of hearing from you. The urge to see you again, and the thrill of venturing into this zone again, sends a chill down my spine. So enticing, so exciting, so wonderful.

I wonder how your day went, I thought of the things that you did, I worried that you had a rough day. Am I drowing in my own self deluded fantasy ? Or is it actually sanity calling me back. The thought of getting to know you better drives me everyday. Even so if it a mistake to feel this way, I'd submit to my punishment. I don't want to be too forceful to scare you away, neither do I want to play cool and let the opportunity slip. I can't answer to my heart that way. Its crazy, I know, but i think that feeling which was long lost, has came back to me.

I'm fearful of the unknown, but even more fearful of not knowing what it could be.

A worthy person

A life that is worth it is not a wealthy life, not an honourable life, nor a long life. But a life that you are "a worthy person" and a life that makes other people "worthy" also.

Shitty day .. Anything goes ..

One of the shittiest day ever .. Friday 17th of October .. Rainy day ..

Woke up 10am by boss who told me to go down Junction 8 to grab some stuff.
Went for a bath, prepared to leave house 1 hour earlier.
Raining like shit, decided to call for cab.
10 minutes later, no operator.
Decided to brave the torrential rain and walk out with my puny umbrella.
Wrong move, trousers end got wet.
Water in socks.
Umbrella started to leak inside.
Walked to main road, no cab. (My my am I suprised)
After 5 minutes decided to walk to the bus stop to wait for the bus.
Getting late .. getting late ..
Reached bus stop.
Empty cab turns around the corner upon me reaching the god damn bus stop (am I still surprised)
Flagged the cab.
Reached junction 8.
Have to buy belt (Belt snapped yesterday).
No belt.
Socks wet, looked at socks, 1 for $7, 3 for $15.
bought 3 bloody socks.
Changed socks.
Took stuff and realised left ez link at home.
Totally drenched from the rain.
Trousers dropping coz no belt.
Lugged 2 parcles on the train looking like a drenched terrorist.
Reach work late.
With wet socks in my bag.
Wet shirt and trousers.

And no belt.

Sick and half dead

Hari Raya is approaching, its gonna be a long week with long hours. At least I'll have Sunday night free. Perhaps movie with the pork and the black would be planned.

Fell sick yesterday, throat hurts like mad when I swallow water. Headache and giddy spells haunt me. Must be overworked. haha

Feeling really tired now, and even though its my off day, I still have a packed schedule. Sigh .. the shittiness of working 6 days.

Watched Going the Distance and it was awesome. I'm like a sucker for RomComs. Maybe I know realistically it won't happen in real life. But it would be great to live a dream won't it ?

Still hanging on

Life at my new job is still going good so far. Started courses, more responsibilities, longer hours but still relatively happy there. I'm pretty comfortable with the people I work with, they are all young and full of vigor. Even though I'm only a few years older than them, it feels as if I'm 40 and they're like hyper active kids who never seem to get tired.

I see alot of my past self in them and it really brings a smile to me. Its great to be young and vibrant.

I've been "arrowed" by my boss to do some filming. Its pretty much serious stuff with scripts and all and to be honest, I'm not the least keen in doing it. And since I was told it was either my boss or myself, what choice do I have ? Hopefully it won't be akward at all. It is also time for a diet. Dang.

Xiao Qiu quit her job as an Accounts Exec, apparently she found another one as a Marcomm Exec. She was at Ion earlier to look for me and I missed her. Then I realised that I actually do miss her alot. Which brings me to my point - I have zero social life after work. I need more time with my friends.

My weekend is burnt as I'll be working till late at night. Hopefully next week will be better .. till then ..

Work life

Finally watched Inception through the weekend with alvin and pork, it was as good as they say. Also watched Love in Disguise on Sunday capping off the week.

3rd week at work now, its been pretty okay. Lots of fun, scandals and "hugs" around the work place.

Sometimes, I ask myself if I'm getting tired of everything and just want time to stop so that I can catch a breather. I realised that life is as it is and it'll take time to get use to the kind of life I'm leading now. Maybe all I needed was a break. To what extent then ?
The good news is, the fun loving bunch at work reminds me of my time when I was their age, not that its really much of a difference but still ..

I'm still hoping for the pot of gold to be at the end of the rainbow. And perhaps a new direction for me to move forward.

Au Revoir Taipei

Finally had time to meet pork and black for a movie. While I was driving towards Cineleisure, we were deciding on The last Airbender or Inception. But as fate would have it, I made an impromptu decision to watch Au Revoir Taipei. And it was an awesome choice.

The movie was awesome !

Au Revoir Taipei to me is Taiwan's answer to Ethan Hawke's
Before Sunrise, where everything happened in a night. Of course the difference being that they met in the book store a couple of times before and more comedy is thrown in making it an awesome movie.

Romantic comedy is a tricky genre to make a film about and I'm pretty demanding as I do enjoy romantic comedies. But the filmmaker Arvin Chen 陳駿霖 has combined humor and light-hearted characters with good character developement to produce this charming piece of work that'll put a smile on your face as you walk out of the theater.

Side track a little .. For the first time, Pork, black and I eached liked a different girl from the movie. That's pretty awesome. I liked the cute Amber Kuo 郭采潔, pork liked the police's frustrated wife Peggy Tseng 曾佩瑜 while the black liked the convenience store girl, Vera Yen.

Just resist the urge to take up lindy hop after watching this movie :D

4 more days till holiday time ! No where far, but it's a break still. Awesomeness !

I've decided to let go of a much higher pay job to work at some place that pays much lesser but I'll be happier there.

I've been spending a little too much recently. Control Control Control.

Pork bought Burberry scarf for 1 grand yesterday. I chose it for him ! On top of that, I introduced Narciso Rodriguez to him which he bought too ! Keeping the tradition of high spending Sundays alive.

Life Changing Decision

It was a tough decision to make. I've decided that being happy is more important than all the money in the world. At least for now. I've gained back more than I've lost so far and hopefully it'll continue to be that way. I know for sure things will not be smooth sailing but I'll try my best to make the most out of it. A little sacrifice will hopefully propel me to greater heights in my career. I guess I just couldn't run away from it. Now to get things done :D Basha !

Finally watched finish Liar Game Season 2. It was awesome. I also watched the entire Your Hand in Mine, the 180 episode local telly show. Trying to do some show-catching this week.

Songs and random nothings

Work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep. The cycle continues. Its pretty boring, but after working 8 years of part time jobs, an 8 hour workday is pretty much nothing to me. Meeting clients, driving around and helping out in the factory is my life now. Its boring, but it pays the bills.

I don't have inspiration to blog about anything now, but I'm gonna put on a couple of songs that I've been listening to almost everyday.

McFly - All about you

This song was in my mp3 vault, until recently Hannah posted the video on Facebook did I realised how much I loved this song from before.

Tokyo Girls' Style - Kirari

This song is by this new Japanese group formed by Avex Trax this year. 東京女子流 / キラリ☆ Their debut single, which means "shining", is an awesome song. Like T-ara's Time to Love and Mario and Nesty's Never say goodbye, the first time I heard this song by Tokyo Girls' Style, I fell in love with it instantly ! They're all 12-14 years old and look at their moves ! Awesomeness !

Karate Kid

I've been too busy to update, but I caught The Karate Kid online a couple of days back.

I found this picture super sweet and thought I might share it.

Weekend awesomeness

What an awesome week it has been. I did go for basketball at my place, but it seems Friday's the day when no one is interested in playing basketball. Went home after 90 minutes of shooting around. I was prepared to stay at home when pork rang to ask me out for some pool. We did, and perhaps due to the world cup opener, we had a table almost immediately. Pool went fine and it was back home after.

Come saturday, slept till 11am coz it was freaking hot. Picked pork up at 3+pm and drove him down to Ubi to collect his shirts. In the end, we stayed there for 2 and a half hours coz his shirts wern't ready. Of the 2 and a half hours, 1 hour was spent waiting at a nearby coffeeshop and the other 1 and a half hours I was freaking alone in the car and was close to killing myself. Asshole tailor. Anyway, picked Siqin up a little late and we reached Plaza Sing at around 6pm for dinner.

We started our L4D session and we played all 5 maps in versus mode. That took about 5 hours of lan gaming and many breaks in between.

Something funny happened to Alvin though, Some malay dudes came in and thought Alvin was their friend and told him "Eh Ah bang, join this game leh". WAHAHAHAHA ! proves our point that Alvin's pretty much an escapee from the malay community.

Siqin, Alvin, pork and I had supper at Xin Wang Koven, while kangwei and tiongyuan went home. This is when the madness started. We spent 2 hours talking about building our own city and running it. With slaves and stones and an awesome hierarchy of dominance in the new society we create. It brought back memories for the nostalgic days of secondary school.

Sunday came, routine sunday, went out with pork again to look for bags, ended up buying none. But to cap off the awesome weekend, we caught the movie "A-Team" which was AWESOME ! Everyone should go watch it.

In a few hours I'll be starting work. Time to sleep. And good luck to me. Jia You Lianshen !

With a little luck, it'll be an awesome weekend

Looking forward to an awesome weekend. I gave myself a whole day of freedom today (Friday) with the intention of sleeping in late, have lunch, watch some shows and go out for some basketball in the evening.

On Saturday, I've planned an outing with the guys for dinner and a little gaming. And on Sunday, it'll be routine Sunday before going back to work on Monday.

Hopefully everything pans out the way I intend.

Sylvia McCully holiday workshop part 2

Week 2 of the June holidays workshop organised by Sylvia McCully's dance school. A new batch of girls, 2 different grades, grade 2 girls and grade 4 girls. This group of girls were more rowdy than last week's girls. Of them, I recognised a grade 4 girl, Sarah, whom I believe will grow to be a gorgeous heart breaker. So boys, beware, Sarah's gonna break you heart one day.

Other than Sarah, another cute girl amongst the grade 2 girls was Kelly. The little one was shy at first but opened up and talked like there was no tomorrow. Awesomely cute !

Well, again proves that I prefer having a daughter. haha

Is this gonna be a closure? If it is, it was a really good run and what a way to finish off this part of my life :D

Worked on thursday and the dance school girls were there again. Nope, Fu Ching and her friends wern't there no more. But, the new Grade 1 girls were pretty awesome as well. Of them, I talked to the 6 girls sitting outside the party room.

They were mad cute and they made me remember their names - Audrey, Nicolette, Clara, Ing xi, Megan, Wanting. Of them, Audrey is the cutest ! hoho.

Proves the point whereby I prefer having a daughter.

Sunday was awesome !

Sunday was pretty awesome ! Pork and I played pool till about 2am on saturday night, reaching back about 230am and giving me about 5 hours of sleep before waking up for bball at 830am later that morning. Reached the court at 9am, Siqin, Kangwei, Tiongyuan and Eezhong were already playing with the people there (since I was holding the ball). Sky darkened. I played only 2 games before it started to rain. Great, the season just resumed and this had to happen. But all was good, we decided to play some L4D2 at Ang mo kio.

While driving there, the idea of breakfast hit me, and Long John's nicely located below the lan shop. That means Texas Chicken Toast ! We ate there and while eating we've decided on the teams - Team amk/lentor (Kangwei, Tiongyuan, Eezhong, Hoeaik) vs Team Bishan/shunfu/sinming (Me, Siqin, Pork, Alvin)

Played the entire first map and half of the second map. It was awesome ! Harder compared to the previous L4D but nonetheless still awesome. It was mad fun and we were shouting like secondary school kids during gameplay.

After that it was home and sleep.

Woke up at 5pm, prepared to meet pork. Picked pork and met up with kim at her place before deciding to head down to Cineleisure for K. Booked a 730pm slot.

Dropped Kim and pork at the entrance of Cineleisure for them to check out tickets and to queue up for food first while I parked the car. Went down to B2 and saw dragon. Lucky ! After meeting up with pork, we managed to get the 10pm Prince of Persia. Lucky ! With good seats. Lucky ! We ate KFC and managed to reach KBox at exactly 730pm. Lucky ! Didn't have to wait and got a room almost immediately. Lucky ! Managed to sing
Shan Hu Hai with Kim. Lucky !

Rushed for movie at 10pm, but still missed the initial part of the movie. But the movie was awesome considering the bad ratings it got in magazines and the papers. After which drove back the tired kimmy and pork home before heading home. After bathing, watched 2 episodes of Gossip Girls before crashing.

Less for the $9.10 parking fees and the long freaking wait to get popcorns, it was close to a perfect way to spend a Sunday :D

Amazing Race and Survivor Heroes vs Villans

Back dated post. This season of the Amazing Race and Survivor: Heroes vs Villans was pretty awesome. The entire season was good, EXCEPT for the freaking winners. Seriously !!!!
Sandra ? The one who scrambled like an ant throughout the entire game trying to save her ass. Made alliances that crumbled under the wrath of Russell Hantz ?

Yes, Russell played the game well. But not i TOTAL control. The sexy Parvati Shallow was just as scheming. Anyway, Russell is probably there just to play and mess around with 19 other helpless human beings. Satisfy his ego to play god for a while. He's a millionair, he doesn't give a shit about winning.

In the end, the 3 left were all unworthy winners in my opinion. But the hot Parvati should win. haha !

-----
The amazing race, pretty good season with pretty intense drama at certain points. More importantly, the came to SINGAPORE ! Woo hoo !! haha.

The hot favourties, the Cowboys Jet and Cord were poised to win the race. Then it all changed in the last leg where by the half gay brothers got pushed up to first class on the plane back to the United States and they never lost the lead. Damn !

Cowboys performed steadily throuhgout the race. They should be the winners !

Half gay brothers, not as good but luck got to them eventually.

The third place finishers, probably ranked as one of the most childish team ever, Brent and Caite, were the surprise team in the top 3. Although many of the teams didn't like Caite (think lesbians) because of her shoddy performance in Miss Teen USA, you've gotta admit, she's hot !

At the finishing line, she was gracious enough to apologise to the team (think lesbians) they U-Turned during the race, but the latter wasn't gracious enough to accept the apology and argued in front of all the teams and Phil that the cowboys were the stronger team and were supposed to be U-Turned. Seriously, its the freaking game ! If you can't get to the U-Turn first, its just your damn luck. Come to freaking terms with it.

Yeah, I've come to terms with the winners. Althought they wern't the people I expect to win, but good job and thanks for a wonderful season. Looking forward to Spetember for the next 2 seasons of the Amazing Race and Survivor Nicaragua :D

Pizza cravings and Mr Kenneth Cole

My pizza craving is getting out of control. I need pizza soon.

I've been on a spending spree. I need to control myself. Luckily I have no cash on hand, I bought 2 bottles of escada sentiment for myself while shopping for Kim's gift. Most beautiful

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. It is hard to define beauty, it is subjective and it is judge on many different criterias. In the 20 odd years of my life, I've seen my fair share of girls, ladies, women. Whichever way you wish to term them. I am super proud to say that I know some of these ladies personally (which means we're friends - well at least I assume that we are). To me, they're beautiful, attractive, (Insert nice words here)...

One man's meat is another man's poison. So don't judge.

Just to protect everyone's interest, they'll be given code names. Pretty obvious if you're close to me.

Miss B - Her smile melts hearts. Poised, elegant, adorable and delightfully charming.

XQ - Awesome friend, loyal and easy going. Exudes her own charm making it easy to be around her.

TPR - Tall, cheerful, friendly and is a model. What more can I say?

Starts with a J, ends with an E - Alluring and beautiful. Strangely, she makes me wanna go on a holiday with her. Weird.

Then there is this one person. The one whom I've always loved but never really show it much. The one who made me the way I am now. The one who'll always be there for me without expecting anything in return. The most beautiful one of all - Mum.

You're the greatest mum ever. It took me a while to grow out of my adolescence years and to realise your good intentions and the worries and hope you placed on me.

On this 9th of May 2010, I would like to wish you a Happy Mothers' Day. I Love you mummy :D

Dream

I had this super bizarre dream last night.

I was running around a stadium. I presume I was running the 2.4km test. Running at a steady pace, I felt energetic and poised to finish the run by 10 minutes. Then, during my 5th lap, as I ran round the D-Ring of the stadium, there stood a row of people, standing side by side of each other. I recognised them. They were my friends from university.

As I ran past them, one by one, they contorted their bodies. Initially I couldn't make out what they were doing, but soon, it became clear.

I ran past Joel first. He had his left foot on his right knee and was forming a circle with his arms on his left. I realised that it was a "B". Then I ran past Sanny, She was standing on her right foot while stretching her 2 arms and her left foot to her left at about 15 inches apart. She was forming the letter "E". At this point, I started to think, what the hell were they trying to tell me. I ran by the next person. It was Wenxing, She was just standing there with her right arms stretched out and posing with a victory sign. I couldn't make what the hell she was trying to tell me, I later realised her letter was "V". Next, I ran past Grace, She was doing the exact same thing as Sanny. Trying to maintain her balance while doing it. Her letter was "E". Jeswan was next, she was bending her body infront, as if ready to dive into the pool. With her arms out streched, I realised it was an "R". Then it was Kaien, sitting on the ground 90 degrees to his left, with legs stretched out straight and arms pointing towards the sky. His was showing the letter "L".

I kinda knew what was being spelt. The last person was her. Standing straight with both her arms raised to the sky forming the letter "Y".

I stopped running immediately, walked up to her, held her face gently and kissed her.

(I remembered this so clearly coz as I woke up, I immediately wrote down the people in the dream on a notepad beside my bed)

What an awesome dream! I think I've watched one too many dramas. haha.

Donnie Yen is awesome !

I was browsing through yahoo news and there is this one article regarding the possibility of Ip Man as a trilogy. And Jay Chou is slated to be playing Ip's famous student Bruce Lee.
The news is great for fans of the Ip Man franchise. But what got me was the last phrase by Donnie Yen.

[Even lead actor Donnie Yen dismissed another quick sequel. "Let's wait for the script. Also, if Jay Chou is acting as Bruce Lee, I would need half a year to train him for his kungfu to look convincing."]

Haha !!! come on Donnie .. did you see Jay Chou and his whip in Trasure Hunter ?!?!?! Haha .. I know Jay Chou fans will hate me for this but I'm still gonna say this. Donnie is the man ! Haha !

Random Rants

McDonald's Cinnamon Melts tastes like shit. I enjoy the Cinnamon tea from McCafe but come on .. Cinnamon Melts ? Its like pieces of bite sized bread, drenched in over sweetened syrup with a strong punch of Cinnamon spice. Every bite was like ants digging their way into your inner gums and planting shit along the way - simply torture. McDonald's product FAIL.

On the other hand, the quater pounder should be a menu regular :D

People should really learn to respect one another. There are assholes out there that think that they are superior to others just because 1) they have a little more knowledge than others, 2) just because they have more money than others (be it their own keep or supplied by parents), 3) just because they THINK they are, because of their oversized egos. You do not degrade someone just because they are less successful in life than you, you do not look down on someone just because your have more money than others.
You respect one another, as fellow human beings, because thats the way life's suppose to be. But then again, if there are no assholes like those people in the world, this post would be pointless right? sigh .. like what the famous cowboy says, there is no hope for the human race.

Music

Its funny how my taste in music doesn't change much as I grow older. I grew up in the late 80s, early 90s. A period where boybands rule. Backstreet Boys, a1, Boyzone, Take that, Michael Learns to Rock .. You get the drift. You have to admit, at some point in time, you've heard of their songs and even liked them. I'm not too cool to admit, I did enjoy those songs then.

Perhaps I was exposed to music from the 80s more than I should have. I always remember, in my younger days, as I travelled in my dad's car, Class 95 will always be on. I got exposed to the songs they play and liked them. It was constantly playing hits from the 80s and I believe that the 80s shaped the way music is now in the 20th century.

I've heard it from somewhere, when you're young, you listen to Perfect 10, Yes 933. This goes on all the way till your late teens and early adulthood. People who listen to Class 95 are people who've "made it" in life. And as you grow older, you listen to fm958 and so on. I heard about this when I was younger, much younger, and perhaps since I was a loyal listener to Class 95, I rode on the fact that I've "made it" in life, I'm like a mature and stable kind of guy. How childish.

I guess my point is that, I enjoy the oldies, music that most pimply teenagers hate unless it's remixed (think Gazebo's I like Chopin) to a dance mix which probably be played at the infamous Mambo Nights at zouk. It might be me, but I think these remixes killed the song totally. But its just me.

As music downloads become more accessible, and video streaming gets popularized by YouTube. I find myself immensely enjoying Jazz/ Bossa Nova and indie music. Largly due to the accessibility of these songs and linkage between them.

Its not as If I totally hate "headbanging", techno, Discopop, Electropop genre of songs. Surprisingly, a couple of my favourite songs belong to these genre. Classification of songs gets a little complicated, now that there are so many different sub categories. So if somehow I've classified a song in a wrong category, forgive me (you know it all asshat).

I've looked through my entire mp3 folder in my external hard drive and I have come to conclude that I'm leaning more towards Jazz/Bossa Nova, oldies and indie music.

Some songs, just after hearing it once, I like it, its pretty much like music love at first "listen". I know it doesn't make sense but I don't give a shit. I like it. For now, I'll randomly throw songs that were kinda my favourites through the years. Songs that left deep impressions on me.

For some reason, I liked Evan and Jaron's Crazy for this girl when I was in secondary school. I kept playing the damn song over and over and announced to the world that it was my all time favourite song. For a couple of years, it was. It was a superb song.

Soon after, I got into slow ballads my favourite then was a song by Gary Barlow - Forever Love. I remember humming this song everywhere I went, at even recommended this song to Nursey, which I believe is one of her favourite songs too.

Another one of my all time favourite is from Breeze - Just a Feeling. This is one heck of a song. 8 to 10 years on, it never fails to be in my mp3 folder in which ever computer I've used through the years. A classic.

My interest in Jazz/Bossa Nova peaked with artiste like Peter Cincotti, Renee Olstead and our very own Olivia Ong.

Peter Cincotti's On the moon, soothing and meaningful. (couldn't find the video of the "live in New York" performance)

Renee Olstead's A love that will last, prompted me to get her CD without much consideration. Recorded when she was 16, with that amazing voice, it blew me away. (video is fan made, not original) Renee Olstead also did this wonderful rendition of Chaka Khan's Through the fire in David Foster's show which was awesome ! No video for that though.

And finally, our very own Olivia Ong. I first noticed her when I heard her rendition of Fly me to the moon by the great Frank Sinatra. Her voice was so sweet and her enuciation differes from what I'd expect from a local girl. I'm going to post up 2 of her songs. Fly me to the moon and her new song You and Me.

I'm not all Jazzy and Bossa Nova and Traditional Pop. Below are 2 songs that I really like. In a foreign language too !

T-ara's Time to love

As well as Mario and Nesty - Never Say Goodbye from the awesome korean drama My Girl (2005)

I'm going to end this post very abruptly now, just as I've started it impromptu.

attraction

Never make decisions base on irrational emotions. You should always think straight and not get emotionally attached just because of close proximity. But at times, your actions betray your intentions. You do things that you shouldn't do as a "normal" friend. You think about that person constantly, you worry alot for that person. In the end, all you needed was an assurance that that person is safe and sound and that invisible weight goes off your shoulder. Its funny, but hard as you try, its unavoidable. Is it love ? I beg to differ. Its more like .. attraction .. it is subtle and exulting at the same time.

This reminds me of a quote from the movie "
Along came Polly"
"Since we have been together I have felt more uncomfortable, out of place, embarassed, and just physically sick then I have in my entire life. But I could not have gone through that, I could not have thrown up 19 times in 48 days if I was not in love with you."

Hmmm, I wonder if that is even possible.

Tips on being a good customer

Its the weekend of sequel-ed men ! ip man 2 and ironman 2. Both movies have awesome trailers and I'll be watching ip man 2 with porky in a while.

In the meanwhile, I've got something to share from one of the greatest book written by Steve Dublanica. Waiter Rant. It is meant for people who are waiters or were once waiters. It is an awesome book ! The only differences are that its setting is that of fine dining in the United States and the tipping part, which differs greatly from Singapore's practices.

So, inspired by book, I proudly present tips on being a good customer. This is dedicated to my hard working staff at the establishment I work in.

1) Make reservations and keep them. More importantly, be on time, you wouldn't want us to hold back your table while a queue snakes down the entrance, it makes it difficult for our hostess to seat other customers and your held back table becomes an eyesore.

2) If you're going to be late for your reservation, please call. We will hold back the table for as long as we can. On a weekend if somehow you've managed to get a table reservation with us and you are 30 minutes late, don't bother coming, turn around and go to the nearest McDonalds.

3) Never say, "I'm friends with the restaurant manager/owner." Restaurant managers / owners do not have any friends. This marks you as a clueless poseur the moment you walk into the restaurant.

4) Seat where you're seated ! Whenever hostesses attempt to seat guests, many customers (usually females) will walk past the proffered seat and hunt around the restaurant for a better table. Please, let the hostess do her job. She's trying to seat customers evenly so that everyone gets the best service possible. And if your waiter hears you whining about your table, he or she will know you are an annoying snob who thinks you're entitled to undeserved rock star treatment. Your waiter haven't even met you yet and you've already got a strike against you. How wonderful. The food taste equally good on regular tables and on booth seats.

5) Be polite. Say please and thank you. Be courteous to the hostess, waiters and managers at the establishment you're dining at . Treat others as you want to be treated. (Yes, people need to be reminded of this)

6) Never say, "Do you know who I am?" Why ? Did you forgot who you are ?

7) Do not snap your fingers to get the waiter's attention. Remember, we have shears that cut through bone in the kitchen.

8) Tell your kid to put away the PSP and sit up straight.

9) Do not use your laptop while eating dinner. And don't ask for a table next to a power point you cheap bastard.

10) Please make your sever go through the specials only once, spread the word around your table of 20. We do not wish to repeat the long list of specials again and again and again ...........

11) Order clearly. Say what you want. Your waiter is not psychic. Clarify the order with the waiter who, if he's smart will repeat the order back to you. You do not want cow on your table when you ordered chicken and your waiter doesn't want to bring the wrong cow back to the kitchen to get screwed by the chef.

12) Don't order off the menu. There is a reason why the menu items are as it is. It doesn't mean that we sell tuna and rice, we can make you sushi. When you order and change things in the menu, you're forcing the chef into a situation where he's cooking something he doesn't make on a regular basis. In a restaurant kitchen, repetition is the key to consistency. You want your heart surgeon to have done ten thousand by passes before he cracks open your chest right? Same with a chef. If he makes the same entree ten thousand times a month, chances are the dish would be a home run every time he churns out one.

13) Reasonable menu changes are all right for food allergies. Don't lie and say that you have an allergy so that the chef will make something special just for you. You know who you are.

14) The secret to being treated like a regular customer? Be a regular customer. Everybody likes to have a favourite restaurant whereby the waiter knows his favourite drink and the owner makes a fuss over him. We all want a special place where we'll always get a good table or a last minute reservation. The problem is, most patrons think they're entitled to that level of fawning on their first visit to the restaurant. Wrong ! If you want to be treated like a regular customer, you have to patronize an establishment at least once or twice a month. And don't be an ass when you're dining with us.

15) Don't monopolize the waiter's time. Sure I'd like to talk with you, only if I have 5 waiters but only 2 tables in the restaurant. And please, call me over when you are ready to order. I don't want to stand by your table while your date is a clueless person who has no idea what he/she wants. I can always come back later.

16) Don't ask for seperate checks at the end of the meal. That's your problem. You should have told me earlier.

Most of the above mentioned are copied word for word from the book. But I've added little bits and pieces to them to make it easier to relate.

Working in the service industry, you get to meet people from different walks of life. It doesn't get dull and probably its the only reason why I'm still working in a restaurant part time.

Randomness of stuff

It’s been a while. I’ve got no one to blame but myself for the lack of updates. Laziness. I do not deny. Some random stuff that happened through these few weeks.

Vulnerability of love
A good friend of mine pulled the plug on his relationship with his girlfriend of 5 years. All along, I’ve always thought their wedding would be the first amongst our group of friends that I’ll attend. Stability is the main reason for my assumption. The news came as a shock to me. I understand that every couple have their fair share of quarrels and disagreement. The solution is usually compromise. But the question is, to what extent would compromise work. Sooner or later, it wears down both parties. At that time, would their love for each other be able to hold the fort and stay strong? Apparently for this case, it crumbled under that pressure. I wouldn’t say that I’ve lost faith in love, but the scepticism of the existence of love that is able to withstand anything exists. This issue has stressed the beliefs I have for love as to oppose dogmatism.

Is love really that fragile?

On the other hand, another buddy of mine recently got attached. It was plastered all over his facebook and comments rolled in, mostly with the teasing and congratulatory messages. A simple picture of meehoon bought by your loved one, spells blissfulness and it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.

Then the question comes again, will this feeling of happiness last and withstand the tireless test of time? Certainly, I wish both my brothers the best. Be it at the end or start of a relationship.

Love, is definitely complex, we love to hate it, and we hate to love it.

Remedial Training
I’ve completed a cycle of remedial training at Bedok camp. It is time wasting and tiring, but I’m just glad it is over. I really need to get back in shape.

Qing ming
Qing Ming is here again, once again, the area near my house is jammed up every weekend. A simple trip from Bishan back to home usually takes 5 minutes. But with the traffic, I need to make a turn through Shunfu, back to upper Thomson and finally back home. The new journey takes 20 minutes with all the jam.

Every Qing Ming, my estate suddenly becomes like a condo. We have policemen stationed at both exits of my estate and they double up like security guards. They endure the sweltering heat and the unforgiving rain. And every time I drive up to them, upon seeing the car decal I have up on my vehicle, a smile forms across their faces. Two thumbs up!

Teaching
I’ve recently stopped teaching two of my students, due to circumstances that I am unable to react to and carry on teaching. It has been two weeks already, still no news from their parent. To make things worse, it is their exams this week. Hopefully they’ve manage to pull through. I think I worry too much for them, I really have to learn to let go.

Kick Ass
Kick ass kicked ass! Awesome movie! With its slapstick humour and awesome action, it is really worth watching. Oh yeah, by the way Chloë Grace Moretz = Yummy !

Finally

It was a bittersweet moment, nonchalant expressions, I think they were kinda expecting this moment to come. But it really has been a good run. Looking back at those times we spent together, it was all worth it.

I wish them all the best, stay healthy and work hard for your future !

Life blows

Wednesday, 17th of March 2010. I took my IPPT. Massive failure. boo. Saturday would be the start of phase 2.

On the bright side, Chloe came by on saturday, just for a while. She smiled and called out to me. She's mad cute !

Sunday, had bball. Potential badminton session next sunday ! Went out with Kaili for routine Sunday movie. The Lovely Bones. She said she'd like to join badminton coming Sunday if schedule permits. Listen first, likely not to happen.

Movies with pork as usual, boring lifestyle. Nothing to look forward to.

Life blows man.

Love

As i was sorting out my emails to my other account, I realised this one mail titled "Love". I opened it up and read the contents. I smiled. I wrote this back in the year 2005 or 2006. It seems a little silly back then to write this, but I thought of sharing it with you guys.

Here we go.

-"-

Love, what exactly is it? Love is complex and it has a lot of meanings to different people in different parts of this world.

Love is defined as a deep, tender, ineffable feeling of affection and solicitude toward a person, such as that arising from kinship, recognition of attractive qualities, or a sense of underlying oneness.

Some people claim that love is blind, some people says love is the greatest thing on earth, while others says love hurts. I want to try to understand something that has baffled millions for years, to understand what love is.

True love means being happy to the person you love even if his/her happiness means that you are not a part of it. Definitely true as not many would be happy for their loved ones if the one they really love is some other. But still there are people who are contented just knowing that their loved ones are happy despite the fact that they really want to be with them.

Feelings for someone you love can be strange; it can affect moods, your lifestyle, and lead from one thing to another. For example, having your loved one running through your mind all night, hard as you might try to get some sleep, you just can’t. Tempted as you might be to give her a call, you just don’t have the courage to. Wanting to tell her how much you miss her lately, the way you are missing her now. That pain of suppressing your feelings within you not able to let anything out is like millions of needles pricking on your flesh, torturing you a painful death. Love in this sense hurts. Terrified, human beings start fearing love. “I was afraid to love you, now that I love you, I’m afraid to lose you”.

We tend to see the dull side of things. Causing our boldness and courage to falter, we lose faith in ourselves and finally give up on love. Not only that, would the person you love, love you back in the same way and leave everything behind for love? Questions like this hold us back from us expressing our love to one another.

“I love you” is not just a saying or just words, it is sentence of hope and trust and love. It fills the giver and receiver of this sentence with happiness and joy.

I’ve read it somewhere saying It is probably not love that makes the world go around, but rather those mutually supportive alliances through which partners recognize their dependence on each other for the achievement of shared and private goals.

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.

I guess love makes the world seem brighter, flowers smell sweeter and your whole world is surrounded in their beauty. Love is indeed great :D

The week before Awesomeness

It has been a long week and finally I'm at the last day ! Will be in Malaysia from 8th till 10th March 2010 for a short break. Can't wait !

I've been teaching, teaching and teaching the whole week, not to mention the dreadful Remedial Trainings at Bedok Camp. Well at least there was angle to accompany me through the time-wasting RT sessions.

Went back to work on Saturday, Sui sing didn't turn up, ended up with me, saiful and andrew enduring a "very" busy breakfast period. I saw her again, that cute cute little girl who turns up punctually every saturday for a meal. I gave her 2 wafers on the house today :D she was estatic ! I never got the chance to ask her for her name. I'll ask her next week i guess.

Another cute girl came to order a cake for collection next week. I was telling her what kind of flavours would be a good combination and she was pretty scared of me at first. But ice cream works magic. I gave her a spoonful of sample of her to-be cake and she smiled immediately. Superbly cute !

Her name is Zoe, she'll be nine next saturday :D

Work finished off pretty fast, I rushed home and took a cab down to Bedok for saturday's session of RT. Slacked through the whole thing and rushed home to change before meeting up with pork at Novena before heading to Chinatown to meet Jason and Ying Hui.

It was my first time at the "$10" KTV at smith street. Ying Hui had some friends over. Some guys and a girl. Apparently we played bball with some of the guys before ! How small the world has become. Anywho, KTV was pretty fun, and the damage total was $22.60
By the way, Ying Hui has a nice voice, so does her friend Harmony. And the guys there were all good singers. Was kind of pressured by their voices. I think I miss the days where we'd go to Dockside for drinks and KTV !!! A little booze goes a long way I guess :D

Jason drove us all back. It was pretty awesome to not drive for a change :D

I'll be teaching again tomorrow, a make up lesson for next week. Hopefully it doesn't get cancelled.

After tomorrow ! HOLIDAY !!!

Awesome !

全城热恋热辣辣 = AWESOMENESS

Saturday (20th Feb 2010) was a busy day. Went back to work in the morning, alice, lisa and saiful was on the morning shift with me. Requested to leave at 2pm due to the stupid RT at bedok camp. Skipped lunch but Roger fried some awesome fried rice at 2pm for me. Left work at 2pm sharp. Brian called saying he was at Thomson, with the intention to look me up at work. I was queueing up for 4D at that time. We had a quick coffee at Hans before he sent me home.

I rushed to shower and pack my stuff (with the intention to shower at Bedok camp after RT). Reached bedok camp on the dot. Parked far far away from the stadium. After which I realised I could have just parked beside the bloody stadium. Saw Angle there. Awesome, at least someone i knew. Everything finished at about 715pm. Rushed home to bathe instead.

Drove out to pork's place at 830pm. Reached Jason's place at 9pm. Finally reaching Anita's place for her bday celebration at 930pm. Ate a little. Anita has this odd charm about her. Do not know how to put it in words but yes, she's charming in a certain sense. Left shortly after at about 1030pm. Picked Ying Hui up at Kallang, headed for suntec. There were discussions on whether to head for KTV or just settle for movie. We chose to latter. Watched the movie 全城热恋热辣辣, it was AWESOME !!!!!!

Drove to Ying Hui's place before having a quick bite at a coffeeshop before heading home. It was a nostalgic day. like your typical saturday night 6 months ago.

sigh.

Things change.

Some of my friends did not get this ad. I'm not sure if they were able to click to enlarge it but I'll explain.

This is one of the most "convincing" ad I've seen in a long long long time.

It is an ad from BMW selling 2nd Hand cars.

2009 resolutions reviewed, 2010 resolutions set

I was reading my other blog and saw my 2009 resolutions, quite interesting. I'm just gonna paste that part here and see how I've done.

2009 resolutions
For this year, my resolutions are as of below
1) Obtain my full degree by this year [I've done it ! I'm a business degree holder !]
2) Control my finances better
[I have a sufficient amount of savings, but too many impulse buy, so i'll fail myself on this one]
3) Lose weight [Up and down the scale but ultimately I gained weight. Fuck]
4) Meet more (nice) people
[I would say I've met my fair share of nice people in 2009, just to mention a few, Xiao Qiu, Sanny, Grace, Joel, En en, Meiyee, Hannah, Janice, Zhen and co.]
5) Travel to Taiwan
[Planned but never happened, Went to Bangkok instead, I'll check it as yes]
6) Change a new phone [iPhone on my birthday]
7) Stop smoking [Here and there, stopped but eventually events "forced" me to continue, eg ICT]
8) Find a girlfriend
[No luck in this department]
9) Win the lottery [All hard earned money, no luck in this department]

10) Learn to let go [I would say I'm at least 80% successful, so that'll be a pass]

Well, Not bad, i scored at 5 out of the 10. So this might come a little late, but in view of the Lunar New Year, I'll plan my resolutions for 2010. Hopefully in 2011 I'll be able to review them like this :D

2010 resolutions
1) Find a job I'm satisfied with
2) Lose weight
3) Sleep more
4) Find a girlfriend
5) Control impulse buys, save money
6) Spend more time with my family
7) Play more basketball
8) Control my temper
9) Less smoking
10) Be happy

Simple resolutions and hopefully I'm able to fulfill them.

Updates till Chinese New Year

Not much movement on this blog since the past few months. Probably owing to my first ICT and not to forget my laziness. So just an update on what has happened so far.

Officially finished up with my bachelor studies, I've obtained my results which is surprisingly good for someone who irks studying since young. Just when I started enjoying the student life, i meant really ENJOY studying, time passes by quicker than you can possibly imagine. I've been saying that I'll do up a post on University life. Yes, I keep procrastinating but I'll do it up soon I promise.

So after my last paper, I had like the christmas holidays to spend before going back for my first in camp training at Tuas Naval Base. Christmas was spent at Lis's place, movies and the usual stuff. Then came the new year, nothing to shout about, probably coz I had the upcoming ICT bugging me then.

ICT came on the 19th Jan 2010, I went back for the first day of briefing and came to realise that it was actually not as bad as I had initially thought. One day duty followed by a day off. Essentially I was serving only 11 days of the stated 23 days.

It turned out that I was the youngest of the lot. We split up into 2 teams and within my team, we had a quite a good time considering most of us didn't want to be there. Pizza party, S9 buffet, slacking, and all the god damn smoking. It was awesome. Soon it was over and then crept up Chinese New Year.

Just a blink of an eye, February has dawned upon us. Spring cleaning followed, I packed up a couple of stashed away boxes and found stuff that brought back lots of memeories. The most prominent one was a gift by Valerie, a photo frame with her picture and a self made note. awesome stuff.

I've not officially packed everything yet, I'll probably start on the second day of the new year. CNY has been good so far, My lucky number for this year is 1 and my lucky colour is green. Ang pow collectiong has been pretty standard. I've been snacking too much, I think its taking a toll on my well being.

Thats all for the updates on my life.

Since I'm home most of the time, I've been catching up on some telly.
I am thrilled by Survivor 20, the gorgeous girls are back ! Amanda Kimmel, Parvati Shallow , and Courtney Yates, just to mention a few. The concept of Heroes VS Villains is pretty awesome.

Also I've watched the local production of The Pupil starring Adrian Pang and Janice Koh. Rebecca Lim is in it as well. She's so fine !!! haha

Random stuff 1 - I've been more active with my twitter ever since I started ICT.
Random stuff 2 - The NBA all star game is tomorrow and Jason Kidd is playing ! Awesome !!!
Random stuff 3 - Yearly mahjong session with my family has been awesome !

Finally let me take some time to wish everyone a Happy Lunar New Year. HUAT AH !
